Community rangeland restoration

The Project

The Project - Barotse Rangeland Management

This project addresses the challenges with an integrated approach to livestock production and rangeland management, leveraging the cultural connection between the Barotse people and cattle to create sustainable economic and environmental outcomes.

Our Approach

We work in partnership with traditional authorities, government agencies, and local communities. Our approach combines improved grazing management, regenerative practices, and rigorous MRV to create measurable climate and livelihood outcomes.

  • Community co-design and governance
  • Evidence-based rangeland management
  • Transparent MRV and benefit-sharing

Expected Impact

Over the next multi-decade crediting period we expect substantial carbon removals, economic uplift for participating households, and durable improvements to ecosystem health.

People

Improved incomes and resilience for thousands of households.

Planet

Significant increases in soil carbon and biodiversity across restored landscapes.

Project Area

The project area includes Mongu, Limilunga, Nalolo, Senanaga and Sioma districts in Zambia's Western Province, spanning 1.2 million hectares.
